What is FBR POS integration?

FBR POS integration is Pakistan's Federal Board of Revenue requirement for Tier-1 retailers to issue invoices in a standard format with NTN, STRN, FBR-format invoice number, and a scannable QR code that links to FBR's verification system.

FBR POS integration refers to the Federal Board of Revenue (Pakistan)'s requirement that Tier-1 retailers — generally restaurants, retailers, and businesses above a turnover threshold — issue invoices in a standard format and (for full Tier-1 integrated retailers) transmit invoice data to FBR's Integration Endpoint in real time.

An FBR-compliant invoice in 2026 must include:

  • Your NTN (National Tax Number) and STRN (Sales Tax Registration Number)
  • Your tax office (LTU / RTO designation)
  • Your POS registration number issued by FBR
  • An FBR-format invoice number — typically STRN-DDMMYYHHMMSS-seq
  • A scannable QR code containing the invoice payload, linking to FBR's online verification page
  • Itemised goods/services with applicable sales tax (typically 17–18% in Pakistan)
  • Total amount including tax

Real-time transmission to FBR's Integration Endpoint is the full Tier-1 retailer requirement; this is typically implemented by FBR-licensed integrators. Many small businesses comply by producing the format-compliant document with the required fields and QR code, which the accountant or licensed integrator submits.

WoBooks generates FBR-formatted thermal and A4 receipts with all the required fields and a scannable QR code. The platform stores your NTN, STRN, tax office, and POS registration number once, then formats every receipt correctly automatically. Real-time transmission to FBR's Integration Endpoint is on the WoBooks roadmap; for the current scope and what your accountant handles, see /fbr-pos-integration.

Common questions

Do all Pakistani businesses need FBR POS integration?

No — only Tier-1 retailers, which generally means businesses above a turnover threshold or in specific categories (restaurants, big retail, etc.). Smaller businesses can issue regular receipts. If you're registered for sales tax (have an STRN), you should check your specific obligations with your accountant or FBR directly.

What's the difference between FBR-format invoices and real-time FBR transmission?

FBR-format invoices contain the required fields (NTN, STRN, invoice number format, QR) — anyone can produce these. Real-time transmission means the invoice is submitted to FBR's Integration Endpoint at the moment of sale, which requires an FBR-licensed integration. Most small businesses produce format-compliant invoices and have their accountant or a licensed integrator handle submission.
